Hola! I hope you’ve all been well. I have had an incredibly busy last couple of months doing a ton of author-y things (full update to come). One of those things was actually getting some projects completed. Friends, I haven’t published anything in over a year. Which is a first since releasing my debut book, How To Make A Monster: The Loveliest Shade of Red in 2019. This extended break is something that has troubled me deeply, but I’m finally gearing up to send new stories into the world in a variety of ways. Which means I will need beta readers to tell me whether they think I have written something solid or something shite!
I’m currently only looking for a handful of brutally honest beta readers (people willing to read an early draft of a story in exchange for honest, often heartrending feedback) for two speculative fiction novellas: ‘Neon Apocalypse’ and ‘Brain-Dead Girls.’ But I have written A LOT, so I will likely need beta and ARC readers nearly every month for the rest of the year. Even if you aren’t picked to read either of these stories, signing up will put you at the top of the list for future beta and ARC calls. Preference will be given to subscribers. The link to the sign-up form is below the story details.
Neon Apocalypse
I have been wanting to put out an alien invasion story for years now. I have also wanted to serialize a story for a long time. Neon Apocalypse will give me the chance to do both. A novella in three 7000+ word parts, Neon Apocalypse is probably the most unique and weirdest story I’ve written. More and more, I’m enjoying reading and writing speculative fiction. I’m hoping fans of the genre find this story to be something fresh, original, and thought-provoking. My plan is to serialize Neon Apocalypse for free on Substack and Patreon.
Brain-Dead Girls
Including Brain-Dead Girls, I’m in the middle of working on three different Daze of Dystopia stories, one of which I hope will be the next novel I release. The first in the collection, In the Darkness, Eyes and Teeth was published last year and has become one of my highest rated books. Daze of Dystopia stories aren’t (always) related by plot, but they all center around the theme of a dystopian aspect of our modern world that has the potential to get out of hand (In the Darkness, Eyes and Teeth is about the pet cloning industry). Brain-Dead Girls touches on the growing trend of people developing relationships with AI chatbots, and AI assistants like Chat GPT. Each story will be accompanied by an essay that further explores the issue and its potential benefits and detriments to society (which I have yet to write for Brain-Dead Girls). I’ve been having a lot of fun working on each Daze of Dystopia story, and I hope you have fun with them as well.
Thanks for Reading!
And thanks to those of you who have been patiently waiting for new material from me. There is plenty to come, and I intend for this next wave of stories to make the wait worthwhile. Feel free to let me know which story you’re more intrigued by in the comments!
